Search for missing girl continues
Brooke Carol Wilberger
We really need to pray for her.

Corvallis, OR -
By Ravi Kapur
Police believe a 19-year-old Eugene, Oregon woman has been abducted from an apartment complex in this small college town.

Brooke Wilberger was reported missing Monday, after she disappeared from an apartment complex across the street from Oregon State University's football stadium. She had been visiting her sister and brother-in-law while on summer break from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

"There's every indication to us that some kind of crime was committed," said Capt. Robert Deutsch.

Wilberger's family told police that Brooke is a devout, studious Mormon who doesn't smoke, drink or party. Her longtime boyfriend is currently in South America on a mission trip.

Kevin Gunnell searches

Avery Park in Corvallis
on Tuesday for signs
of Brooke Wilberger,
who last was seen
Monday morning
outside the nearby
Oak Park Apartments.
"This is a person who is completely responsible, who doesn't have any kind of record," he said. "It's so out of character."

While the official ground search was called off, volunteers fanned out all over Corvallis, searching for any clue of Brooke Wilberger.

The disappearance of the 19 year old Wilberger has really hit home with community members all over Oregon. Countless volunteers from around the Willamette Valley are putting their own needs aside to look for her.

The Church of Jesus Christ for Latter Day Saints is the central command post that allows volunteers to coordinate their efforts throughout Corvallis and the rest of Oregon.

Even members of Corvallis Police are using their own free time to ensure Wilberger's safe return.

Police received over 200 phone tips today, as citizen volunteers manned the phones. Most treat the Eugene native's disappearance as if their own child was lost.

Volunteers hope their efforts are enough to bring Wilberger home.

The media frenzy is now in full effect, as members of the Wilberger family will appear on national morning shows to spread the word that their daughter is missing.

Father, there is a young woman missing, her name is Brooke. I ask Father, for her life and for her salvation. I ask also for the salvations of her Family and the Friends that are searching for her. I ask for her life here on earth and I ask for her eternity to be in Jesus. Please send the angels to release her and bring the searchers to her for her rescue. Help her as You did Mr. Hamill, let her hear the searchers and free herself to run to them. Father, I ask that her kidnapper/s be caught. Holy Spirit, please work in the lives of Brooke, her Family and her Friends. Bring them to Jesus, repentance and Salvation. Thank You Father, In the Name of Jesus! AMEN!

No New Leads In Search For Brooke Wilberger

By SARAH LINN

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Police questioned registered sex offenders and residents of an apartment complex where a 19-year-old girl went missing, officials said Wednesday, but they said no new leads were turned up in the disappearance of Brooke Wilberger.

Police also fielded hundreds of tips from across the country, but nothing that has given them a break in the investigation. Police suspect Wilberger was abducted.

A student at Brigham Young University, Wilberger disappeared on Monday from an apartment complex where her sister lives.

Corvallis police Lt. Ron Noble said authorities interviewed nearly every resident of the apartment complex, as well as those in nearby apartments and homes.

They also spoke to all the registered sex offenders living within the county, he said.

Hundreds of volunteers are helping in the search. Some of them handed out fliers to motorists and passers-by.

Others combed through rough, forested terrain near the apartment complex, including Wilberger's friends and members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, to which Wilberber belongs.

Corvallis resident Daniel Kearl, a member of the county search and rescue unit, has been helping with the search since Monday night, battling through heavy brush and steep ravines.

"For me, the initial energy hasn't worn off," said Kearl, his forearms crisscrossed with red scratches.

Wilberger's parents, who live in Eugene, appeared on national TV morning shows.

"We just want to tell Brooke we love her," Greg Wilberger said on "Good Morning America." "We hope she's well, and that she'll have courage."

Jared Cordon, Wilberger's brother-in-law, said the family has been meeting every morning to coordinate sleep, meals, child care and media appearances.

"We're tired. It's been two days since a lot of us have slept," a visibly weary Cordon told reporters here Wednesday, adding that the family is relying on its faith in the community and God for strength.

"Our hope is to get her back," he said, "and we're not out of gas yet."

Wilberger's family told police that the missing woman is devout and studious, and does not smoke or drink. Her longtime boyfriend is in Venezuela on a Mormon mission, the family said.

Wilberger is 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighs about 119 pounds, and has a scar on her right arm from her elbow to her wrist.

She has shoulder-length blond hair and blue eyes, and was last seen wearing a gray Brigham Young University sweat shirt, jeans, small hoop earrings and a ring with the initials "CTR" engraved on it.

Corvallis police spokesman Capt. Robert Deutsch said Wilberger's purse, keys and other personal items had been left in her sister's Corvallis apartment and the missing woman's car was still in the parking lot.

A piece of clothing belonging to Wilberger was found in the complex's parking lot, he said, another possible tip-off that she'd been abducted.

Wilberger was cleaning the bulb covers of the tall lamps that line the complex's parking lot Monday morning when her sister left for a few minutes, Deutsch said.

Wilberger has been studying speech pathology at Brigham Young University.

She graduated last year from Elmira High School near Eugene, where she played soccer and track. Wilberger has three sisters and two brothers.

FBI agents and Oregon State Police are assisting in the investigation.

Prayers for Brooke

Prayers for Brooke

By Carol Reeves
Gazette-Times reporter

When it comes to times of crisis, a common belief in the power of prayer trumps doctrinal differences every time.

As people heard about the disappearance of 19-year-old Brooke Wilberger Monday morning from an apartment complex near Reser Stadium, hundreds of members of the local Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints showed up to help searchers comb nearby Avery Park and distribute pictures of the missing woman.

Wilberger was in Corvallis to spend her summer vacation with her two sisters after finishing her freshman year at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

Other faith communities have rallied to support the search effort as well by lifting Wilberger and her family up in prayer.

The possible kidnapping was a topic of discussion at Calvary Chapel's weekly gathering of students Tuesday night at Oregon State University. College minister Mark Troncale said as leaders met 20 minutes before the program was to begin, one of the students insisted they spend their usual preparation time praying for Wilberger.

"We prayed for her, for her family and for the authorities. We also prayed for them in our Calvary staff meeting this morning," Troncale said Wednesday afternoon.
Beth Crawford, campus minister at Westminster House, said she received a request for students to help search for Wilberger on Tuesday from Tom Sherry, the campus advisor to the Mormon students group and a coordinator of activities sponsored by the OSU Religious Advisers Association and Student Affairs Division.

She forwarded his request to the Westminster House list-serve but could not confirm whether any students were able to participate in the search.

"Our core student community will come together tonight (Wednesday) for our weekly gathering and we will pray for Brooke and her family during this time," Crawford said.

"Her disappearance has left members of the campus community feeling vulnerable and has reminded people of how fragile life is," she said, adding Westminster House is open to students looking for a "safe space to share thoughts and feelings that have surfaced since her disappearance."

Ministers at several other churches reported they also had prayed for the Wilbergers during staff meetings and that their mid-week and weekend services would include times of prayer for everyone involved.

"The people in our church are deeply concerned for this young woman and her family, and many have been praying for her safe return. Our leaders began to pray for her almost as soon as we heard the news about her," said the Rev. Ron Johnson, pastor at Corvallis Evangelical Church.

"We will be praying for Brooke at our Wednesday Bible study and if she is still missing, we will be praying for her and the family in both of our worship services on Sunday morning," Johnson said.

Father,

I pray for Angels to surround this young woman. I ask that they minister to her and that you would guide the searchers to her and free her from the enemies clutches. I pray that whomever has her would let her go that she would run straight to police or saftey of whatever nature you would provide her. I pray she would come home very soon safe and sound and the news reporters would have some good news for once to report. In Jesus Name,Amen.

Praying this Back to the Top!

Father, Brooke is still lost and I ask for a quick resolution to her kidnapping. Holy Spirit, open Brooke's prison doors and let her walk free, in the name of Jesus and for the Glory of God! I rebuke the powers, principalities, demonic forces and familiar spirits that are keeping the searchers blinded and Brooke held captive. In the Name of Jesus I loose you on Brooke's life and bind your hands. You are arrested and sent to the throne room of God. Jesus, be merciful and cover Brooke with the Blood that You shed for her salvation, deliverance and healing! Cover her life and uncover the kidnapper/s to the Light of Truth, expose them Lord and bring the to Justice. In the Name of Jesus! AMEN!
