The Triumph of the Spirit
The below teaching will change your life if you let it get deep within your spirit. I will post the other 3 parts sometime during this coming week go ahead and print this as it will be a long transcript and is very much worth studying.

What I am begginning tonight is a very important message to you as Gods people, on the triumph of the spirit of man.
This is a teaching that is not often heard nor really understood. But I pray that the Lord will give us hearts to discern his word and recieve it.
1 Thessalonian 5:23
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Now paul gives you and I something extremely vital to our success as believers when he mentions the fact that our spirit and soul and body are in the plan of God. First we notice the order which is spirit, soul, body not body, soul, spirit.Now I want to help you tonight understand how the spirit functions how the soul functions and the results of that in the body. And I want to help you also understand how to begin living and walking in the spirit in order that the body might be placed under subjection to the will of God.
So lets first deal with the spirit lets understand the spirit. So go with me now to Zacheriah 12 and I will read verse one. Because we got to understand first of all what the spirit is.. I'm not talking about the Holy Spirit I'm talking about your spirit. (Zechariah 12:1) 1 The burden of the word of the LORD for Israel, saith the LORD, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him.
The spirit of man is FORMED by God. We got to understand something here that God the almighty is the inventor the creator and the maker of your spirit. It came out of his heart to form you. Now the word of God says that God breathed your spirit into your body. Remember and this explains Zechariah 12:1. In Genesis 2:7 it says God formed the body, God formed the clay, God formed man out of the dust of the ground. And then and only then he breathed into his nostrils the breath of life.So zacheriah said he formed his spirit within him there was already a dwelling place for that spirit before God ever breathed. And so Genesis chapter 2:7 says we have the body formed first out of dust we have the spirit breathed into that vessel of clay and the result is a soul. The soul is the result of the body and spirit coming together.
The soul is the result of flesh and spirit coming together. He formed the body (Genesis 2:7) 7And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground (First), and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life(thats the spirit); (thirdly the result of that is) and man became (became meaning the result of) a living soul. So the spirit of man came forth of God, the breath of God. Now lets understand something, I need a spirit to know God, I need a soul to know self, I need a body to know the world I live in, the world around me. God is in my spirit, the new birth experience is in the spirit. Self is in the soul but sense is in the body. Again God is in the spirit, self in the soul,but sense my five senses are in the body. And each has a function of its own we will explain that in just a second. Now adam in his unfallen state before sin corrupted him did not know anything about the ceaseless striving, the war that takes between spirit and flesh. Now the reason is because he was is in his perfect state. Now you and I today are still in this imperfect state and therefore we are in the midst of a war.
We are born into it and live in a war because the fact that spirit and body are against each other. Now the spirit of man hear this very very carefully. The spirit of man cannot rule his body without the permission of the soul. Your spirit cannot rule your body unless the soul says I let you. Because the soul stands between both and the spirit of man cannot subdue the body, cannot subdue the body without the soul. The spirit cannot rule the body without the soul, the spirit cannot subdue the body without the soul and vise versa. The body cannot affect nor touch nor corrupt the spirit without the soul. The body cannot unless the soul allows it to draw the spirit into the world and bring it to death, unless the soul says I'll let you. So you got the spirit you got the body you got the soul making decisions saying yes I will let you, no I wont let you. You got to understand this. The soul is the result of God breathing into a house of mud. The minute the breath of God almighty touched that mud the spirit was created and the soul was the result.
Man became (became means the result of) the spirits breathing or the Lords breathing. Now amazingly the soul takes on the character of the one it is subject to. If the soul decides to submit to the body it takes on its character and it acts just like him. The soul is that part of you that says yes or no, the decision maker of where you are going. So its very important we understand that the spirit of you indwelled by God cannot touch your body nor the world around you unless your soul is submitted to the spirit. And if you choose that your soul is submitted to the body your lost. You are living in the flesh and the spirit is dead, theres no say so in your life. Now when the fall took place, when adam fell what happenned? This is the part we have to understand. When adam fell something happened to the spirit. the noblist part of man died. You see your spirit is that noble part of you, the noblist part of you is your spirit. The lowest part of you is your body. So look at yourself as your spirit being the noblist and your body being the lowest. And the soul is in between both.
Now when adam fell his spirit ceased to exist, it died. So that spirit within, when I say dead I mean dead unto God. If the spirit submits to the soul, you see the soul makes decisions. That is so important you gotta understand the spirit of man cannot rule the body without the soul cannot subdue the body without the soul. It only rules the body and subdues the body through the soul and the body cannot affect the spirit unless it goes through the soul. But once it goes through the soul if the soul allows it, it can draw the spirit into its world and kill it. Because the spirit can only live in the spiritual world not the physical world. Just imagine three lines Gods intention is always three lines, where the spirit is in control the soul is subjected now to the spirit and there is order and the body subjected in his order under the spirit. In the spirit there is order, in the flesh there is chaos, there is no order. Because suddenly the lowest part is in control and there is no head. Theres no head, theres chaos. Theres no clarity theres no division of spirit,soul,body theres just body thats in control. And its chaotic theres no true image and order that God has established. So what happens? God has to come at the new birth and divide asunder soul and spirit to put them back to where they belong.
So we read in Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. At the new birth God pulls them apart, God revived the spirit and now it stands on its own. Its no longer dead and subject to the body. For remember what did death do? Death silenced the spirit now the soul takes on the character of the body and all is ruled by the lowest part of man, the body. God now puts the order back in place at the new birth and puts the spirit back by giving it life. And now the soul is the go between both and the body is still there. And God says now start fresh and rebuild yourself. How Lord? Thats where we are going. Are you ready? Alright.
Now before we go on though I gotta explain a few things to you.1 Timothy 2:14 says and Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. This is extremely important. Adam in his original state was neither holy or sinful. He made a choice and the scripture says adam was not decieved. Adam was not decieved. But the woman being decieved was in the transgression. He made a choice, he didnt make the choice because he didnt know what he was doing. He didnt make the choice because the devil made me do it. He made the choice clearly and understood what he was doing. Thats why God blamed him for the sin. Amazingly the woman was not punished, the man was. And she shared in his punishment. I'm not saying that punishment did not touch her of course it did through the man. The man was judged and therefore his wife was judged. He chose to sin, he chose to disobey while she was deceived, he wasnt. Adam did not fall because of deception, he fell because of affection. He loved her more than he loved God. He knew exactly what he was doing. He wasnt decieved I mean the scriptures are clear on that. So he did not fall because of deception he fell because of affection. He loved his wife way more than he loved God and God said no and she said yes. So adam said I am going to obey you rather than God. I'm going to obey you instead of God. He made the choice.
Now thats when death came into his spirit and now his soul became subject to the body and therefore death came and man became a soulish being. Not a spiritual man but a soulish man. Thank God at salvation God begins the process of division by dividing asunder soul from spirit and puts them back into there proper place and begins the work again from within. All divine begins within.

Part two:
The spirit has three functions. Number one: communion or worship. John 4:24 God is looking for those who will worship in spirit, communion. The first function of your spirit man is communion with God. The second is intutition or perception. Mark 2:8 says Jesus percieved and he percieved in his spirit. So the second function of the spirit is intuition or perception. And the third function of your spirit is witness or conscience.In Romans 8:16 we see the witness of the spirit . Romans 8:16 says the Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God. So the three functions out of your spirit are: Communion which is worship, intuition which is perception, conscience which is witness.
Now the soul also has three functions, important functions but sadly we sometimes dont know where these functions fit and we think they fit in the spirit when they really fit in the soul. Number one: Will, your will is in the soul. Job 7:15 says so that my soul chooseth (the choice is in the soul) strangling, and death rather than my life. So its the soul that makes choice its the soul that decides, its the soul where the will is in. So when you say I will which part of you is talking? Your soul. Secondly your intellect, the thoughts are in the soul. Lamentations 3:20 says My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is humbled in me. So where is memory? In the soul, we call that the mind but frankly its the job of the soul. And thirdly emotions, emotions are in the soul.
Now the body whats its function? Its function is to die. It has no function except to die to be crucified. And lets understand what were talking about here. I dont mean go and nail your body to a cross. Sadly some have misunderstood what it means to crucify the flesh. They have punished there bodies thinking by punishment they are going to live in the spirit. Thats not what God is talking about. Romans 6:6-13 says knowing this, that our old man (the body) is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.For he that is dead is free from sin. Thats a mighty statement! Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more, death have no more dominion over him.For the death that he died, He died to sin once and for all; but the life that he lives, He lives to God. Likewise, were to follow his example in other words it is are duty. Reckon ye also yourselves to be dead. So how do we crucify the flesh? Reckon ye also yourselves to be dead, dead indeed unto sin. But alive unto God through Jesus Christ are Lord. Now notice you cannot die unless Jesus is apart of it. Through Jesus, through Jesus. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body. Its your duty to not let sin reign. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin. But yield yourselves unto God as those that are alive from the dead and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
Now its interesting he's telling us something most important and most revealing. Many believers are ignorant of Gods ways and they attempt to conquer the flesh by fighting it. They want to live victoriously and therefore being ignorant of Gods ways they battle the flesh believeing they are going to conquer the flesh. You cannot conquer the flesh by battles, trying to conquer it through battles, you cannot be fighting it. The Holy Spirit will allow you, he will stand on the side and let you try and be defeated, again and again and again and again and again. Until you learn and then you will begin searching to find Gods ways in the matter. And until then you are in a battle you'll never win. Look what the scripture says Phillipians 3:3 says and I am going to read you these scriptures so you can see where I am going. Because this is your life. Phillipians 3:3 For we are the circumcision which worship God in the spirit and rejoice in Christ Jesus, (in the spirit he just said) and have no confidence in the flesh. Have no confidence in the flesh. If you will deal with the spirit you wont have to deal with all the other little things that come out along lifes way. Get to the source, I have no confidence in the flesh. And the soul is in between both wondering who to obey. And he will always submit to the stronger. Oh hear what I just said. Your soul will always submit to the stronger. He will always take on the character of the stronger. Dont you understand at the new birth your spirit is an infant and your body is an old man. Its been there longer than your reborn spirit. The spirit is called the new man. The body is called the old man. Isnt that right? Thats what the bible calls them. And the soul says so who shall I listen to? The baby the new man or the very aged old man. Its time the baby starts growing so the old man will have no control. Many Christians are walking around with the old man running there life. So the soul says well I'll just take on the character of the old man since I cant submit to the spirit he's to young, hes still an infant. And who's job is it to develop that little baby? We will deal with that one later. Lets just stick with this let me show you something.
No confidence in the flesh number one. Number two Romans 7:18 the bible says for I know that in me and then he explains what in me really means. That is in my flesh dwelleth no good thing. In my flesh dwelleth what? No confidence, no good thing. Lets keep going Romans 8:12 Now you hear this real good! Therefore brethren we are debtors not to the flesh to live after the flesh. You dont owe your flesh a thing. We are debtors not to the flesh, I am not in debt to the flesh. I owe my flesh nothing. And 1 Corinthians 1:29 this is another powerful powerful truth from Gods word. The bible says that no flesh should glory in his presence. No flesh can ever glory in the presence of God. No flesh is allowed in the presence of God. What are we to do with the flesh? Jude tells me in verse 23 to hate it. Save others, snatching them out of the fire; and on some have mercy with fear, hating even the garment polluted by the flesh. 1 Peter 2:11 dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul. We are to abstain from the lusts of the flesh. So what are we being told here? Were being told to not even try to repair it, its beyond repair. The flesh is to be crucified. The purpose of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in us is for one reason, the crucifixion of the flesh cause we know you and I cannot do it on are own.
Thats why we are told through the spirit , through the spirit mortify the flesh (kill it). The purpose of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in us is not to improve are flesh but crucify it. Communion, perception, witness thats my spirits functions. Will, intellect, emotions thats my souls functions. All six are neccesary for my existence. My body is the vehicle that my spirit lives in. And my soul which has the choice choosing to surrender to the spirit and take on its character or choosing the body and take on its character. My soul within is also dwelling within this body. At the moment of death this body the flesh goes back to dust. The soul if the spirit is reborn is saved, but while I am living on this earth my soul is between two at war. My spirit craving hungering seeking God, my body craving hungering seeking the world are at war. And I am being pulled, when I say I, I mean the soul. I'm being pulled between both. If the spirit is weak I will be defeated. What must I do? I must focus all my attention on feeding it building it developing it every moment of the day developing until my spirit is strong enough to defeat the body that has been there a long time and has won for a long time. Now its time for the body to be defeated and the soul will always submit to the one which is stronger. Its time we focus on that man over here, the new man, the little man, the infant man because God will ONLY talk to him. God will not talk to the body, he only talks to that new man. The new man is the only one who knows how to worship, hes the only one who knows how to understand the bible. And hes the only one who knows how to talk to God and hes the only one that can hear God. The soul and body are listening to the world. But if this man becomes strong in you then the soul will eventually submit to it because it always goes to the strongest. It always takes sides with the strong.
Now what happens? Suddenly your will becomes his will and your intellect is under is under its submission, your thinking like God and now suddenly you know what happens your emotions are under its control and your going to love Jesus with all your heart. Instead on the other side if you dont build that new man whom are you going to love? The world and the things of the world. Its that simple. So I have got to go to the Lord and say now Lord I 'm yours, blessed Jesus by your power and spirit show me how to begin living as a true Christian ought to live. Now here's the difference between we and the unbelievers.We can say no and they cannot to the body. No matter how little how weak your spirit man is its alive.Its not dead its alive, therefore we have been given power to say no to that old man who's stronger than the new man the infant man, whos more powerful because he's been fed a lot longer. And the soul is on its side its been there a long time. So now there's something that the new man can do. It can say I am not going to do it. Now thats where we begin, we can say no to sin. The world cannot because the world is totally controlled, those in the flesh are controlled by the flesh and have no power to say no. Why? Because power only comes from the spirit. There is no power in the soul or body. Power is only in the spirit .
