Christian Professor from CALTECH warned of tsunami 7 months ago
Expert warning Professor from California Institute of Technology gave repeated warnings 7 months ago. by Jonathan Leake A LEADING geologist repeatedly warned Indonesian officials that an earthquake and tsunami would soon strike their shores, it emerged this weekend. Kerry Sieh, professor of geology at California Institute of Technology, has been studying the region for nearly a decade. Last July he became so concerned at the likely massive loss of life that he printed and distributed 5,000 posters and brochures around some of the islands later hit by the earthquake. He addressed church congregations and schools to tell people what to do in an earthquake. His main advice was for people to live away from shorelines. Sieh had been due to meet Indonesian officials last month to discuss a wider education programme but the meeting was cancelled at the last minute by city officials because they said they had no money. Two weeks ago he expressed his fear that a big earthquake and tsunami were overdue in the region at a conference in San Francisco. Sieh said this weekend: “No one can predict exactly when an earthquake will happen but it was clear that this area was at relatively high risk and such an event would definitely happen one day. “We told them it would kill people, wreck infrastructure and destroy livelihoods. But our warnings were falling on deaf ears. “My team and I decided to bypass the national and local government and start warning people directly. I hope our efforts saved some lives.” Ten years ago Sieh installed monitors on islands off Sumatra. His research focused on the Mentawai Islands, a chain 100 miles south of the epicentre of the Boxing Day quake. Communication has not been re-established with the islands since the tsunami. At his speech to the annual meeting of the American Geophysical Union in San Francisco, he pointed out that, historically, such events have occurred in clusters. Sieh believes this means another quake could be on the way: “There is some evidence that the stresses on the tectonic plates south of the epicentre may now have increased and raised the chances of another major earthquake.”
Dr. Sieh, a Professor of Geology at the California Institute of Technology and a senior partner in Earth Consultants International, is an internationally recognized expert on active faults and earthquake hazards. His documentation of ancient earthquakes and slip rates along the San Andreas, San Jacinto and other California faults set the standard for quantitative estimates of the probability of future destructive earthquakes in California. He has completed three similar studies in Turkey along the North Anatolian Fault for the purpose of evaluating and advising on the future seismic risk to client industrial facilities. He has served on numerous scientific peer-review committees and advisory panels for State and Federal governments and has served as a consultant to various public utilities, municipalities and geotechnical firms.

Lord, we thank You for the watchers in our lifetime. We pray for their protection, and well being. We ask that their warnings not fall on deaf ears, but ask that You will open our ears to hear them so we'll know how to pray and move.
Lord, help us to be in safe places when these disasters happen. Let no one be hurt. Send angels to protect us and guide us. Help us to help each other.
Lord, help all of us understand why these things are happening. Let us have the gift of repentance. We ask all these things in Jesus' Name, and thank You for answering this prayer and for blessing Your people. Reveal more and more of Yourself to us. In Jesus' Name we ask it....Amen.

I tried to warn them about the tsunami and they laughed at me
Expert: I tried to warn of tsunamiPHUKET, Thailand (Reuters) -- A Thai expert says he tried to warn the government a deadly tsunami might be sweeping towards tourist-packed beaches, but couldn't find anyone to take his calls.Samith Dhammasaroj said Monday he was sure a tsunami was coming as soon as he heard about the massive December 26 earthquake off Indonesia's Sumatra island that measured magnitude 9.0 -- the world's biggest in 40 years. "I tried to call the director-general of the meteorological office, but his phone was always busy," Samith said as he described his desperate attempts to generate an alert which might have saved thousands of lives. "I tried to phone the office, but it was a Sunday and no-one was there," said the former chief of the meteorological department now charged with setting up an early warning disaster system for Thailand. "I knew that one day we would have this type of tsunami. I warned that there would be a big disaster," he told reporters. "Everyone laughed at me and said I was a bad guy who wanted to ruin the tourist industry," he added. The tsunami took just 75 minutes to hit the beaches and islands of Thailand's Andaman Sea coast, 600 km (375 miles) from the earthquake's epicenter. Now more than 5,100 people are dead, nearly half of them foreign tourists who abandoned Europe's cold, dark winter for golden sands and turquoise seas, and left 3,800 missing, nearly 1,700 of them foreigners. Downstairs from where he spoke, dozens of foreigners were still scanning message boards, trying to match grisly photos of bloated, battered bodies to the smiling pictures of missing friends and relatives. "I feel very sorry for the people who died," Samith said. "I will make sure this thing does not happen again." The early warning system for Thailand -- which has not had a natural disaster in living memory worse than floods during the annual monsoon -- would be ready in six months, Samith promised. "We will make the system very efficient," he said. Roaring seaPreliminary investigations by a team of six Japanese experts showed that the wall of water hit beaches along the Thai coast at different speeds and heights, with the phenomenon exacerbated by a high tide that fed the tsunami as it neared land. Khao Lak beach, lined with hotels and resorts especially popular among Scandinavians and Germans just north of Phuket, took the worst hit from waves up to 10.5 meters (34 ft) high. They roared up Khao Lak's gently sloping beach at speeds of up to 8 meters a second (29 kilometers an hour), said Professor Hideo Matsutomi, who led the Japanese team. "There have been six major tsunami in this region since 1797, but I think this last tsunami was the biggest," he said. Tsunami are much more frequent in the Pacific Ocean and countries there have long established an early warning system to protect them from disaster. Samith said countries in the Indian Ocean had to follow suit and set up a network of underwater sea monitors which might cost as little as $20 million to build. Warnings of imminent inundations would be sent out automatically on television and radio and by text messages to mobile phones. The system would help woo back tourists scared away by the mass loss of life, Samith said. "No-one can predict an earthquake, but you can predict a tsunami," he said. "We will build a good system." "We will help tourists come back to Thailand."

Reply to Disasters and more to come.
We as people have been warned. Prophecies are happening now and we must expect earth quakes and tidal waves etc to happen.I belief Mother Nature is fighting back with vengence. It is scientific fact that in the last 10 years there have been more natural distasters that any other time in recorded history. Are people listening and accepting we are in the latter days.Do people listen to warnings ?. Jesus showed us the way, yet so many do not accept. There are more disasters very close and this year with be a year of many. Who will listen ? and accept this is all prophecy beng forfilled?.
I pray for those poor souls who have not and are not listening to the truth and for those of us that are , we have no need to fear as we know we will inherite `The Kingdom of God`. Thank you Jesus.
Blessings to all and my God help those who do not help themselves.

God Does Care!
TO ALL...
I read the story on Dr Sieh's warnings. I believe he tried to do his best to warn others.
But beyond this I do believe God does care. The tsunami has erased thousands of lives and caused uimaginable damage and right now I'm sure everyone is wondering why did not God stop this? Some are probably questioning whether God cares at all for us humans.
I have an answer and may I offer my own version of a 'tsunami' of sorts that hit my home on the morning of Dec. 23. At 4am I heard the screams of my mother. My father had fallen and there was a small pool of blood under his head. I went to try to help but I'm afraid at the sight of my father on the floor and the blood, I completely lost all sense of control.
I was half-crying, I was almost hysterical. In the midst of this emergency I remembered doing something that saved my father's life. I stood before the altar and I prayed to the Lord, I said, please, please save my father's life. "I NEED HIM."
The next minute I made a phone call to my cousin who arrived in ten minutes. We rushed him to the hospital and my dad had a pacemaker installed. I was unsettled but believed all was well.
On Dec. 26th my Dad fell for a second time. Again, there was help. A neighbour drove us to hospital. My father was placed in the CCU. A few minutes later I was informed that what Dad suffered from (rapid heartbeat) could have led to sudden death. Again, I invoked the Lord's help. Again He answered.
Today Dad is recovering and I know without a doubt that God listens. I cannot tell you why but in my heart I know the truth. GOD CARED. I am an insignificant human, but He cared enough to give me back my Dad whom I love. He had no reason to do so in my mind, but in my heart I do know the reason: God LOVES.
To all the many who have lost their loved ones, homes etc I know how terrible must be the hurt. But as the saying goes, TAKE IT TO THE LORD IN PRAYER. Healing will ensue.
I also have an urgent prayer request. There is a 17-year-old young man who is lying in the ICU of the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur. Due to complications, he has become brain-damaged and his case seems hopeless (this is more or less what the hospital authorities say). I don't believe this because I've seen the Lord work miracles and I believe with all my heart that this young man and his hurting family can count on the Lord to heal him completely. Parthiban, a Christian, needs urgent prayers for a full recovery. Today (Jan. 7) when I visited him he was suffering from a high fever and his heart rate had accelerated. I beg all of you to pray for him, I am sure the Lord will hear our prayers.
Love and peace to all.

The Lord Our God Cares
I thank the Lord for his goodness and mercies that are new every morning. He surely cares for us and is the same today and forever. I believe just as he warned Abraham with Lot He is still doing the same through His vessels and this time used professor and others. But we have to keep our spiritual ears open not doubting.
We continue praying for the people affected by the disaster and also pray that what was meant for evil will turn out to be for good. Lets pray that revival will break in those coastal regions and abroad. The Lord be gIven praise. Amen
Love you all and HAPPY NEW YEAR, Kilei Josephine - Nairobi, kenya

Give us the Grace
Oh God, hear the cry of Your people! Oh God, even as we call on Your name! Oh God, come pour out Your mercy as we pray, in Jesus Name.
Father, open the eyes of Your people, that we would see
Father, open the ears of Your people, that we would hear
Father, open the hearts of Your people, that we would belief!
Give us the grace to obey those messengers You have sent to talk to us. Give us the discerning spirit, even the Holy Spirit to help us understand and do Your will for us in all situations.
Give us the grace to be strong and firm even in the face of disasters yet to come.
I pray in Jesus Name, Amen!

Amen, Lord! We agree!
Mt 18:19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

Father, forgive the authorities who ignored your warnings. Forgive those who heard but ignoed the warnings. Bless those now who survive and bring them to salvation in Jesus. Have Mercy Father on those who live and Mercy on those who died. Time is nothing to You Lord, reach back in our time and bring as many as who will into salvation before the tsunami brought their deaths. Lord, have Mercy and Forgive the sins of the people in the disaster zone, hear their cries for help Lord and supply water and food to them to hold body and spirit together for salvations sake, Lord let none die with out Jesus as Lord. Cause the people to hear the new warnings in spite of official censure and help them to run to the hills from which comes their help! Cause people to flee the low areas and islands that will die in the next flood! Their Salvation is nigh! Let them SEE it!!! Let them HEAR it!!! Cause them to ANSWER it!
Have Mercy on and Forgive those who rejoice in this disaster as a sign from You!
Forgive us for being judgmental about this flood and Forgive those who say You brought this on the people of the Indian Ocean for their sin. Forgive them Lord! and soften their hearts to hear You call for Mercy and Compassion and Love for the people who died and the people who lived. Have Mercy on the rest of the world for saying there is no God because You did not stop the waves or earthquake. Forgive those who say You are not there and show them Your Hand of Mercy and Your Goodness for their repentance and Salvation! Show them where You saved those who listened! Show them Your miracles and Love for the people of the earth and for those who died in this flood. Show them You Hand in this so they can see and know that You are God and You are still on Your Throne. Mercy Lord! Mercy! Son of David have Mercy on them! On me, on all those who did nothing, who do nothing, who think You are nothing. Mercy Lord! In the Name of Jesus, the Anointing, the Lamb, the Hope, Your Son, the Redeemer of ALL mankind. AMEN!
