What must I do to get saved

If you have come to this page, friend, it was probably not by accident.
Perhaps you are hurting, perhaps confused. Maybe you are ready to just end it all.
You feel like no one really knows or understands the war going on inside your heart.
I want to tell you something and I really want you to take a minute to think about it.
Jesus knows what is going on in your heart.
He knew you before you were born:
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. (Psalm 139:13 NIV)
And he cares about you very much.

Jesus really is the only help for today's heartaches.
We try to bury them in other pleasures, sex, drinking, drugs, pornography...but there is only one solution.
Perhaps you have lead a life of sin and you have never really known the Lord. Oh, you may know about Him...
but even the demons of Hell know about Him.

I'm speaking of knowing Him... like you would know your closest friend. Whatever you are going through, Jesus has the answer.
He desires to wash away the past and make you new. He can give you a new start.

Please take a moment to read the rest of this page and let me know how you feel.

1. GOD LOVES YOU AND CARES FOR YOU

John 3:16:
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

"Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you" (1 Peter 5:7)

"Jesus … said unto them, ‘They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, not sinners to repentance" (Mark 2:17).

"For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost" (Matthew 18:11).

2. SIN HAS SEPARATED MAN FROM GOD

Romans 3:10:
"As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one."

Romans 3:23:
"For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."

Isaiah 53:6:
"All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way: and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all."

Man has chosen to disobey God and go his own way. Sin means missing the mark of perfection.

3. MAN'S EFFORTS CANNOT REPAIR THE DAMAGE CREATED BY SIN

"For we also once were foolish ourselves, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various lusts and pleasures, spending out life in malic and envy, hateful, hating one another. But when the kindness of God our Saviour and His love for mankind appeared, He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit" (Titus 3:3-5 NAS).

Neither good works, moral lives, religion, baptism, church membership, confirmation, philosophy, can bridge the gulf which separates us from God.

4. JESUS CHRIST IS GOD'S REMEDY FOR SIN

Romans 5:8:
"But God commendeth [proved] his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

Acts 13:39:
"And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses."

Ephesians 1:7:
"In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace."

Acts 4:12:
"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must saved."

Jesus Christ was the only One who ever lived a sinless life. He was willing to give His own life to pay for our sins when He died on the cross.

5. HOW TO ACCEPT GOD'S FREE GIFT OF SALVATION

Romans 10:9-10:
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."

Romans 10:11-13
"For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on Him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: For the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon Him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" ().

Matthew 11:28-30
"Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke s easy, and my burden is light" ().

Ephesians 2:8-9:
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast."

Roman 4:5:
"But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness."

Acts 16:31:
"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved."

There is nothing that you can do to earn salvation; you are saved by God's grace and grace alone. All you need do is turn to Him in faith and believe on Him. Specific words are not necessary. The following simple prayer may express the desire of your heart, but you can pray with your own words.

A Prayer for Salvation

Heavenly Father,
I come to You in the Name of Jesus.
Your Word says, "Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Acts 2:21).
I am calling on You.
I pray and ask Jesus to come into my heart
and be Lord over my life according to Romans 10:9-10.
"If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
I do that now.
I confess that Jesus is Lord, and
I believe in my heart that God raised Him from the dead.

I am now reborn! I am a Christian - a child of Almighty God! I am saved! You also said in Your Word, "If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: HOW MUCH MORE shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?" (Luke 11:13).

Father I'm also asking You to fill me with the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit, rise up within me as I praise God. I fully expect to speak with other tongues as You give me the utterance (Acts 2:4).

CONGRATULATIONS! You have just made the most important decision in your life! Jesus has come into your heart. He will be your best friend. Make time to talk with Him daily. Read His Word, the Bible, regularly. He will speak to your heart and lead you all the days of your life, if you continue to seek Him and let Him. Locate a strong Christian church in your community for Bible study and fellowship. And be baptized as a public profession of your new faith in God.

Begin to praise God for filling you with the Holy Spirit. Speak those words and syllables you receive - not in your own language, but the language given to you by the Holy Spirit. You have to use your own voice. God will not force you to speak.

Now you are a Spirit-filled believer. Continue with the blessing God has given you and pray in tongues each day. You'll never be the same
!

ASSURANCE OF SALVATION

John 10:28:
"And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand."

John 5:24:
"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation, but is passed from death unto life."

I John 5:13:
" These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life..."

All your sins have been completely forgiven. You are saved to the uttermost. The Holy Spirit, which has been given you, will never be taken away.

"If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved" (Romans 10:9).

"Who (the Father) hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son" (Colossians 1:13).

"God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind" (2 Timothy 1:7).

If you desire to be baptized, this can be administered by any born-again believer. But if you are not able to, realize that the receiving of the Holy Spirit is not contingent on baptism.

AS A NEW CHRISTIAN

Romans 5:1:
"Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."

Romans 8:15:
"For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father."

Romans 12:1:
"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service."

Colossians 3:1:
"If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God."

Believe He will cleanse you and make you over again.
"But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the Blood of Jesus cleanseth us from all sin … If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:7,9).

"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away: behold, all things are become new" (2 Corinthians 5:17).

CONFESS HIM PUBLICLY AS YOUR LORD AND SAVIOUR.
"Whosoever therefore shall confess Me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny Me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven" (Matthew 10:32,33)

"Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God" (1 John 4:15).

"For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation" (Romans 10:10).

TRUST HIM WITH SIMPLE CHILD=LIKE FAITH.
"And Jesus called a little child unto Him, and set him in the midst of them, and said, Verily I say unto you. Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the Kingdom of Heaven" (Matthew 18:2,3)

"But without faith it is impossible to please Him; for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him" (Hebrews 11:6).

Abide in Christ and let His Word abide in you, and His Spirit will surely produce fruit in your life. As you read the Word of God, which is your foundation, the Holy Spirit will lead you and teach you the things of Christ. Walk in the light as He is in the light. This is what it means to be in close, intimate fellowship with the Lord Jesus.

CONFESS HIM PUBLICLY AS YOUR LORD AND SAVIOUR.

Where to confess him ?
I think going on the street and "bothering" people with Christ isn't the best way to do it. I wouldn't talk about Christ with everybody cause most people don't wanna hear it. Jesus is too precious to do that.

FREDERIK - We are all called to confess the Lord before man. No better place than the street ! We as the body of Christ are called to do just this very thing. Most hurting people are in the street. We as the body need to get outside the four walls of the building known as the church. We are the church and we need to take the gospel where ever their is hurt and suffering. Think about how Jesus ministered Himself - Many, many ,many times out in the country side on mountain tops and in the city streets. Father I pray You open Frederiks' eye's to the whole truth, Lord wash away the blinders, in Jesus name Father bless my brother, Amen. And I might add that if it takes bothering people to save them from the torment of everlasting damnation, then PRAISE GOD - We need to do whatever it takes!!! God bless you !

What must I do to get saved?

This is the exact question asked by the jailer of Paul and Silas. "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house." Acts 16:31

Jerry, please clarify this passage and a few others for me. Here is where I need a better understanding of salvation:

1. No where did Silas respond, repeat this "sinner's prayer after me and
you will be saved!"
2. If we are saved by grace through faith, then it appears to me that
having to say a prayer for salvation is indeed "works".
3. The gospel of John does not contain the instructions to pray for one's
salvation. "That whosoever believes in him should not perish, but
have eternal life." John 3:16
4. Acts 10:44, the Gentiles received the Holy Ghost in the middle of
Peter's sermon, not by being led in a "sinner's prayer"
5. Romans 10:13 "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord
shall be saved" Who is it who 'calls on the name..'? It must be a
'believer'. So in order to call on the name of the Lord, one must first
believe. If you do not first believe, it is impossible for you to call on
the name of the Lord and be heard! (No biblical basis for answered
prayer by God for the unbeliever. God might hear all prayers but
definitely does not answer all prayers). Thus it appears to be no
biblical basis for the sinner's prayer.
6. I cannot find a record in the bible of unbelievers asking God to come
into their heart to cleanse them of their sins. The biblical basis is to
repent and be baptized for the remission of sins.
7. I cannot find records in the bible of unbelievers praying for their
salvation, but rather believing for their salvation. Abraham believed
what God told him to do and by faith he acted accordingly. Moses
believed what God told him to do and by faith acted accordingly.
Noah believed what God told him to do and by faith acted
accordingly. So it seems to me that the evidence of being "saved"
is proper behavior, or "obedience" to what God has commanded or
instructed us to do. Many have said a sinner's prayer and even
follow God's commandments but are disobedient to what the Lord
has instructed them to do. Thus are unbelievers, and do not even
know it. "God has been telling me to do something about such and
such for some time now!" What are you waiting for?

I am not against praying after receiving salvation, in fact I think it is a commandment from Jesus "when you pray....", but I think a lot of people are running around in the church and outside of the church thinking they are "saved" when in fact they are not!

"Many will say, Lord, Lord..and I will say depart from me, I never knew you"

Confession of Faith
......

What is the sinners Prayer.

The Act of Confession

To My Dear Friends:

There seems to be some confusion as to what a sinners prayer is. So I thought I would take this time to help us understand why we have to make a confession. The whole purpose of discipleship is to put into writing the whole word of God. You will see below that without making a confession or a sinners prayer you can not be saved. It is one of the most important things in the whole bible. Yet the very thought of not asking God into your heart comes against all of the WORD OF GOD.

Our confession is one of the most important things we have has Christians because it declares to the whole world who and what we are. As it states in Romans it is not just enough to believe in our heart but we must confess with our mouth the Lord Jesus Christ.

There are three words translated confession in the Greek New Testament. Homologeo, a verb, is one of the more frequently used by the Holy Spirit. Homologeo consists of homo, meaning the same, and lego, to speak; hence, to speak the same. The International Standard Bible Encyclopaedia has the following commentsregarding confession:

"The radical meaning is 'acknowledgement'…with the implication of a change of conviction or of course of conduct on the part of the subject….The act places one in harmony with others. It is the uniting in a statement that has previously been made by someone else….They are declarations of unqualified confidence in Christ, and or surrender to his services"(Vol. 2, pg. 699).

As we consider the biblical subject of confession, there are three observable areas involving confession. Let us now consider these particulars and see what Bible truths we can glean.

Confession of sin.The confession of sin is an act and situation that abounds in the scriptures and involves different circumstances and particulars. Two pertinent verses are: "I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid, I said, I will confess my transgressionsunto the Lord; and thou forgaveth the iniquity of my sin" and " He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy"(Ps. 32: 5; Prov. 28: 13).

There is confession of sin to God and God alone seen in the scriptures (cp. Ps. 51: 1-4). Sin that is private and only involves the sinner and his God should, as a rule, be kept private, involving only God. It is sometimes unwise to paradeor make public knowledge of this type of private sin. Notice John's teaching in connection to confessing sin: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us oursins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (I Jn. 1: 9). Notice the action of homologeo: we confess the same thing to God, in this case. However, what is the "same thing" being considered? The same confession is that God has said the Christian has sinned and the Christian confesses the same by admitting that he has sinned (the Christian obtains forgiveness through confession, while the non-Christian secures forgiveness of past sin through scriptural baptism, Acts 2: 38, 22: 16). Hence, man cannot have forgiveness unless he agrees with God in the matter of his sin.

There are situations that involve the confession of sin to others besides God. In circumstances involving a personal sin against another, there is to be confession of wrong (Lk. 17: 4). On perhaps a broader scale, James wrote: "Confessyour faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed, the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (Jas. 5: 16). It is necessary that all men realize that they are sinners and be willing to confess this fact (cp. I Jn. 1:8-10). Sin can interfere with the fellowship one enjoys with the local church (I Cor. 5).Those walking disorderly are not to be fellowshipped (2 Thes. 3: 6). In the event of a public sin, the Christian may privately pray to God, but there can be attendant responsibilities involving his brethren. In this vein, the confession of sin can be justas public as the sin itself (cp. I Jn. 1: 9, 7, 2 Cor. 2: 6ff.). In the matter of the confession of sin, though, it is strikingly evident that the scriptures do not even contain a hint of the Catholic practice of auricular confession.

Confession viewed as a profession of life. The concept of confession is sometimes used to suggest a way of life that imbibes and acknowledges Jesus as the primary focus. Consider Jesus'teaching:

"Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is inheaven" (Matt. 10: 32, 33).

To confess Jesus is to make him the object of our faith and life; it is to own him as a Savior; it is to honor him in the life; it is to espouse his cause and to face opposition and reproach for his sake," writes one commentator relative to Jesus' above statement (A Commentary on the Gospel According to Matthew,by H. Leo Boles, pg. 233, see also verses 27- 33 of Matthew 10). This confession is on going and can stand for the Christian's entire life. Jesus said, "He that overcometh…I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels"(Rev. 3: 5). The King James sometimes, in this vein, translates homologeo" profession" (see Heb. 3: 1, 4: 14, 10: 23). This "profession" involves accenting to what God has said and taught and then acting it out in our daily lives.

Confession of Jesus as the Christ. One of the greatest acts of which the human mouth is capable of performing is the confessing of Jesus as the Son of God. An important text is Romans 10:8-10:

"8: But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9: That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.10: For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (Rom. 10).

The salvation being contemplated by Paul is "unto salvation" (eis soterian, in the direction or reaching toward salvation). It is evident that the salvation here considered is the salvation of the non-Christian (see vs.1-8). We can read of confession of Jesus as a prerequisite to salvation:

"And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, see, here is water; what dothhinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, if thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God"(Acts 8: 36, 37, see addendum).

This confession of Jesus declares belief in Jesus as God or deity(Acts 8: 37, Jn. 10: 36, 33). The statement, "I believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God" preceding baptism acknowledges the Lordship and rule of Jesus (Phil. 2: 11, Lk.6: 46). Please recall the words, "they are declarations of unqualified confidence in Christ, and of surrender to his services" (Ibid.).

Some forerunners of the confession, "Jesus Christ is the Son of God." Peter made the good confession (Matt. 16: 16). Christ himself made this confession (Matt. 26: 63, 64, cp. I Tim. 6: 13). The confession also emanated from the mouth of the Father himself (Matt. 3: 17, 17: 5). This confession accents the centrality of Jesus as the "only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth" (Jn. 1:14). This confession that precedes water baptism that is "unto salvation," is atest to determine the eligibility of the candidate to be baptized (Acts 8: 35-38).

The attendant blessings of confession. As noticed, this requisite confession to baptism is "unto salvation" (Rom. 10: 10). Since baptismis the actual act in which forgiveness of sin is experienced, the fact of this confession being "unto salvation" is consistent (Acts 2: 38). Confession that Jesus is theSon of God involves a relationship, both in the anticipatory and realized sense (I Jn. 4:15).

As seen, confession begins with the person initially coming toGod. Confession is a static part and act of the Christian throughout his spiritual journeyand is necessary in order for man to be acknowledged before the Father (Matt. 10: 6-34).The fact of the matter is, "As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me,and every tongue shall confess to God" (Rom. 14: 11). However, at the time of the final judgment, it will be too late. It is desirable, then, to confess Jesus now and enjoy being a Christian now and in the world to come, eternal life (Mk. 10: 29, 30).

Addendum:  Some have contended that because Acts 8: 37, as it appears in the King James Translation, is absent in some of the ancient manuscripts that it should be omitted from the text. The fact of the matter is, however, the reading, "And Philip said, if thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God" predates the extant manuscripts. I say this because Irenaeus quoted it(ca. 170-210 A.D.). This quotation shows that verse 37 was considered part of the text asearly as the Second Century. Besides, the man of Ethiopia had just asked a question of Philip, "See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?" (vs. 36).Without "the answer" in verse 37, Philip would appear to ignore his question and simply baptize him. The answer in verse 37, then, not only has the validation of antiquity, but is natural in the sequence of the events.

I pray my answer above helped you my friend.
Next time as a moderator please PM me first.
You made many statements that showed you had not studied the question completely. We have so many young Christians here I would not want to hurt their faith with disputes among the leadership.

Our confession or the sinners prayer is one of the most powerful weapons against satan we have. We would not want to let satan steal it from a baby Christian because they thought they did not have to get saved.

I don't ask people when they got saved I ask them when they died.

Pastor Jerry
