I arrived at the church at 6:30pm on Friday evening, you could already hear the prayers from the parking lot. Now, you must understand Sequim. This is a retirement community. Dear Friends,
The past few days have been some of the most holy that one could imagine. As most of you know, we have been at the First Assembly of God Church in Sequim, Washington for the past five weeks. Over 140 people have come to the Lord this last month. It is awesome to see that more than 50 adults, who had almost never been in church before, give their hearts to the Lord and get saved.
Night after night, they come to see the Lord. The Lord has brought them from Seattle, Bremerton, Silverdale, Kent, Portland, Phoenix, Tucson, Ocean Shores and Guam. This time it has been different. They have brought the wounded and bruised. Some on heroin and cocaine have been totally delivered.
The first week we saw so many with big time needs being met. A couple who had been living together gave their hearts to the Lord and decided to get married. Have you ever been in Sunday service where it started off with a full wedding? Well, what better time to celebrate their wedding with each other and their new family and, becoming part of the Bride of Christ. So, Sunday morning service we celebrated with them. It almost seemed like the wedding at Cana, except no wine. Then we baptized 15 people and had a great time of worship and breaking the Word of God. Seven people got saved that Sunday. Praise the Lord! They had come for the wedding and the baptisms.
By the end of the second week, the high school had seen some real big time salvations. Two of the young men, Dave and JD, who had been on almost everyone's prayer list, gave their hearts to the Lord. At the Thursday evening service, 5 people gave their hearts to the Lord during the song service and many more at the altar call at the end. By now, people had been healed of asthma and bad backs.
In the third week, the church counselor, Mavis, said she was healed of breast cancer. The tumors just vanished. A woman walked out of the hospital and came straight to the church and was healed. She said she was paralyzed. A man named Steve from the Port Angles church said his friend was just healed of cancer, and the doctors saw it. By now, over 107 people have given their hearts to the Lord. On Tuesday, there was no message because the Holy Spirit moved on the people, and they just came to the altar to pray and touch the Lord.
I have to tell you about Friday the 7th of April 1995. All week long, we had been praying in the morning services for prayer warriors. Well, when I arrived at the church at 6:30pm on Friday evening, you could already hear the prayers from the parking lot. Now, you must understand Sequim. This is a retirement community. As I have been able to put it together, about 12 different people from all over the state just knew God said find Jerry and go pray. No one called each other. Very few knew each other; they just came. If you can imagine 12 different prayer warriors, the best from each place I have been, all who pray as loud as I do, at the same place, at the same time. It was like heaven on earth to me! Sequim never saw such a sight! It felt like the service could go all night. They all said the same thing. They would come every night for one week to pray. I love you, Lord. Isn't He wonderful
We are baptizing about 15 people each Sunday now. Starting Palm Sunday, we started a journey I had never been on. The Lord asked me to preach the last five sermons of Jesus. So, the week before Easter, we relived those last five days of Jesus. It was something I will never forget. This whole week, the unchurched kept coming. Almost everyone this week that got saved had never, or hardly ever, been in church before. Each day and night held a different surprise. On Wednesday, the Lord said, please, pray that my people will move in My mercy, not My wrath.
Good Friday was one of the most holy days I have ever had. I had no idea what to expect. The Holy Spirit wanted me to preach on the steps of Jesus from the garden to the trial to the cross. I had heard it before. I had seen it on TV. I had seen it in the movies. But as one woman named Joan said, the Holy Spirit let us relive it. We saw the price Jesus paid in a way none had ever seen before. A holy hush came upon everyone there. A man and his wife who had hitch-hiked from Montana and got saved in the meetings, said he never knew Jesus hurt so much just for us. Oh, what love- Jesus had to endure such shame and pain just for us. Lord, I don't deserve it. The Holy Spirit came upon every one. No one could stand that morning. We all found ourselves on the floor in a flood of tears when we were touched by His love. It was like getting saved all over again. You just wanted to cry, then wait in a holy hush, till God was done with you.
Easter Sunday was wonderful. What a celebration we had. People came from all over just to celebrate- He's Alive! When the choir finished "Up from the Grave He Arose" the whole congregation jumped to their feet to cheer the Lord. We baptized 18 people Easter Sunday morning. By the evening service the celebration continued. There was no message that evening because the testimonies of the blessing of the Lord went on for almost two hours. What a way to start the week.
Now for Monday the 17th of April. We had been praying that the high school kids would get on fire. Well, praise the Lord, all I can say is that a miracle has began in Sequim. When I got to church on Monday at 6:30, the high school kids were already there. The kids had started praying in an all night prayer meeting Saturday evening on the 15th with the youth pastor. They went to church on Easter. Then the Holy Spirit moved on them again on Monday. It was just like something you would read about in Wales or Azusa. This must be how revival starts. People were crying out to the Lord with all their might. Can you imagine this? The young people started praying in a room next to the sanctuary. I looked up and realized God was moving in there. So the Lord had me ask everyone either to go into the prayer room or go through it. As they did, almost everyone fell into a spirit of intercession and prayer. Some could not pray at first because they felt the conviction of the Holy Spirit and had to lay down their sin first. Some ran from the building because of the conviction. Some people just could not go in because it was too holy. Wherever God is, you must be holy to stay in His presence. A visiting, retired pastor said he had not seen a move of God like this in 30 years.
We saw the young and the not so young, from the ages of 5 to 75 praying for almost three hours. There were no breaks for anything. The Holy Spirit had us on a mission and He was going to complete it that night. At the end the Holy Spirit moved in a wave of worship as never before. There was one person at the piano, but he didn't need to play most of the time. From Friday to Monday God moved so wonderfully I don't think anyone who was there will ever be the same.
We are going into our sixth week here. We may have another wedding at the Monday evening service. My heart is just melting at what God is doing. Please pray for us and please pray for the kids here. God is moving in them and when that happens the battle really begins.
We need your prayers and support. Please pray for us every day if you can.
We will be at the Marysville First Assembly of God Church starting 30 April 1995.
May the Grace of God be multiplied more and more each day to you.
