“June 9, 2003 was the second night of meetings with Mr. Gaffney. I had been praying for my husband’s salvation for 9 years and my physical healing for most of my life. I had stood in the gap for my husband and was in a war for his soul… had suffered much abuse… We had been separated four times… I had gotten to the point that I didn’t feel love for him anymore and I told the Lord several times “I don’t think I can do this anymore. I had spina bifida myself, two little babies, and fighting for him seemed too great a load to bear. Each time I came to God and told Him I don’t think I can do this anymore, He would somehow well up a desire in me to see my husband saved. So strong it superseded any of my doubts. He gently came to me one day and told me I was walking something out most people choose to do because it is so hard to do. Most people get a divorce. A Christian counselor once told me only 7% of marriages make it after going through all we had. I determined in my mind we were going to be the 7%. The Lord was so good. He sent a wonderful woman… who moved into our little town… God used her for 3 years to minister to my family in a powerful way every day. I, of course, made so many mistakes on our journey. I spent much of that time trying to preach to my husband. I read scriptures to him and lectured to him long into the night. I kept thinking if I just say this or do that he will get it. [My friend] told me countless times not to do that, but I didn’t listen. I did this for 4 years. FINALLY I had nothing left to do and nothing left to say of which I am sure my husband was grateful. God was finally able to get me out of the way. June 9, 2003 My two daughters asked Mr. Gaffney to pray for their Dad. He did and my husband got saved in a matter of a few minutes. The only way I can describe these two nights is like this: The Denver, Colorado wave pool. We were on a family vacation a few years ago. We went to the water park there. I don’t swim at all and don’t really like water much. My nephew coaxed me into the wave pool on the shallow end. He said, “It is gentle here and calm.” The first little waves came and promptly knocked me down. I could do nothing but let the waves carry me away. Then, a big ankle landed right next to me. It was my nephew, and I held on with all my might. That was how it was this week with Mr. Gaffney’s meetings. The Holy Spirit beckoned me to the deep where I was out of my comfort zone. I held on to God as answered prayer after answered prayer swept over me. Ladies, if any of you out there can relate to this testimony at all, be wise and shut up.
