A rampage by a Minnesota high school student has left eight people dead, and at least 14 wounded.

An FBI spokesman said at least eight people have died after a high school opened fire at high school. Dead are the shooter, three other students, two females and a male along witht he shooter, who was a male student; a female high school teacher; a male security guard; and two adults off-campus, one man, one woman, who are believed to be the shooter's grandparents.

Roman Stately, a local fire department official, told CBS News Anchor Bob Schieffer the shooter was a student, and that he may have killed his grandparents before coming to school with "several weapons."

Stately said the student had a shot gun and some pistols. He killed himself, Stately said.

"From what I gather, he walked in the front door, shot the security guard first. Walked up and down the hall shooting,'' Stately said. "He shot several in one classroom."

Stately said he didn't know what prompted the student's shooting rampage. The dead student's grandfather was a veteran police officer, Stately said.

Tom Lyons, chief deputy for Beltrami County, said up to 14 people were injured in the mid-afternoon shooting at Red Lake High School in far northern Minnesota.

The FBI did not say how many people had been killed and also declined to release details.

Red Lake High School, on the Red Lake Indian Reservation, has about 300 students, according to its Web site.

Audrey Thayer, who lives in Bemidji and works as a researcher for the American Civil Liberties Union's Minnesota chapter, said the reservation was locked down by police with roadblocks.

"They have got it closed off," she said.

The reservation is about 240 miles north of the Twin Cities. It is home to the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians.
